"Law today, as a lucrative profession, and glorious
career, fills the bill of an ambitious talent.

The bar backons to the bright youth because the
potential for infinite ascent is more in sound
lawyering than in any other vocation.

And, above all, the prospect of elevation to the
Bench makes law a career beyond compare."

 EXCELLENCE IN LEGAL LEARNING

Laws are enacted by the legislature of a country but are born much before the legislative stamp or a court fiat makes them enforceable. The law is fundamentally an instrument that a society devises to govern itself, which is why when a legislature passes a law it becomes binding on it, too. The seeds of a particular legislation are sowed much before an enactment becomes a part of the statute book. The need for a legislation may be expressed though public debates, newspaper articles and editorials and judicial pronouncements. And that is where the legislation actually begins. A legislative enactment, therefore, is nothing but an embodiment of the popular will to address a general need. A lawyer, therefore, is not someone who simply knows the law but is someone who also has his finger on the pulse of common man. A lawyer, therefore, is someone who is socially alive and works constantly for the betterment of the society in his own small but invaluable ways.

Legal training not only enables a lawyer to inculcate an understanding of the law and to hone his skills at making an argument but also to see more clearly how the world goes around and how social problems could be addressed best. The work of lawyer does not begin or end in the courtroom but goes far beyond because he is the one who knows how the system works within the legal framework provided. This also means that coming up with the remedy is also one of the functions of a lawyer.

We, at Universal Institute of Legal Studies, try our best to train our students to bring the best of a lawyer in themselves so that they could contribute their best to the legal world and to make the world little better than they found it.

  ...BECAUSE EVEN SHARKS 'LEARN' SWIMMING

Lawyers are not made; they are born, but then, all sharks learnt swimming at some point of time in their lives despite having born with fins and gills. Courtroom sharks are no different.

Knowing the law and practicing it are two entirely different things. Even if you read every single book available on swimming you might still drown because knowing how to swim is quite different from being 'able' to swim. This is the basic difference between 'knowing' the law and being 'trained' as a lawyer. After all, it is not for no reason that law schools insist on regular attendance. Knowing the law is not enough. You also need to know how to apply it and how to present the legal side of a set of circumstances before a court of law. And before you 'present' the legal side you need to 'know' it yourself. This is what a training in law makes you well equipped to do.

However, not everyone is gifted with the legal aptitude necessary to be a good lawyer. That is the reason why law schools conduct entrances so as to take in only those who are cut out to be lawyers.

  ...THAT'S WHO WE ARE

Universal Group came into being half a century ago, starting with a modest law book store in the heart of Delhi. Gradually, riding on Mr. M.G. Arora's passion to disseminate legal wisdom, the Group entered into law publishing and is now one of the leading law publishing companies in India. Universal Group has been in the service of legal profession for over 50 years.

The Group not only publishes legal books on a very large scale, but has also tied up with several foreign publishers to make law books published abroad available to Indian readers at an affordable price.

Apart from publishing, the Group has also ensured the availability of law books across the country through its elaborate distribution network.

In order to keep lawyers, law students and others updated on burning legal issues, the Group publishes a monthly magazine, Lawyers Update.

But then, there always are newer ways to serve. Thus, Universal Institute of Legal Studies (UILS).

  UILS PROGRAMS

The UILS has firmly believed all through that if the roots are taken care of diligently enough, one need not worry about the tree or the fruits. Therefore, the UILS puts in considerable efforts in preparing the students to take entrance exams conducted for LLB admissions. The entrance exams are not there simply to judge the legal aptitude but are also part of the elimination process designed to allow only the serious kind to see the insides of a law school. These entrance examinations are getting tougher and more competitive by every passing day, and, therefore, need to be taken very seriously.

The UILS helps the aspirants with the entrance examination for the admission to 5-year LLB course as well as to the 3-year course. The classes are conducted separately for the preparation for both. The details are hereunder.

  JUDICIAL SERVICE EXAMINATIONS

Preparation for Judicial Service Examination is vastly different from the preparation for an entrance examination. Judicial service examination calls for a comprehensive understanding of law and legal principles. One is not just tested for one's legal aptitude but also for one's knowledge of the law and understanding of legal provisions.

The UILS, therefore, focuses on improving a candidate on all these fronts so as to ensure that he or she performs at his or her best in the examination. The UILS conducts preparatory classes for examinations.

The study material supplied has been designed and developed by the experts keeping in mind the requirements of the judicial service examinations. It is, therefore, self-sufficient.

Mock Exams are also conducted to familiarize the candidates with the examination and also to make them more confident about their performance.

The classroom training is supplemented by seminars and expert class lectures so that the candidates know from the experts as to what is expected of them in the examination.

The UILS also provides postal course for these examinations supplying required books and reading materials with adequate instructions to assist one's preparation. A team of legal experts is always ready to sort out any problem a candidate might face during the preparation, and also to clarify any doubts that he or she might have with regard to the examination.

UILS's other programs include conducting preparatory classes for the LLM Entrance Examination, IAS (Law option) examination and Advocates-On-Record examination.
