:: Citing lack of evidence, the Madurai bench of Madras High Court (HC) set aside the death penalty imposed on two persons in a quadruple murder case. The Tirunelveli 2nd Additional Sessions Court Judge T S Nanda Kumar awarded death sentence to Kaattu Raja (32) and ''Vettum'' Perumal (33) on December 26, 2012 for murdering Jayakumar (35), his wife Shanmugathaai (33), their daughters Indhira (11) and Bhuvaneswari alias Chitra (8) in their house at Meenavankulam village in Tirunelveli district on April 19, 2007. Jayakumar was working as watchman of a farm. Kaattu Raja suspected that his wife Subbalakshmi (29) was having an illicit affair with Jayakumar and enraged over this, he and his relative Perumal hacked all the four members of the family to death. The victims belonged to Scheduled Caste community. The Kalakadu police had registered a case of murder under the provisions of IPC and also slapped charges under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against Kaattu Raja and Perumal
